Thermal waters, fine dining, sea and glamour have a long history at the Regina Isabella. In the 1950s, Angelo Rizzoli built a hotel on the ruins of ancient Greco-Roman baths in Lacco Ameno that would become the social heart of Ischia, a retreat for Richard Burton, Liz Taylor, Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable and Maria Callas. Today it remains the island's only 5-star luxury hotel, with 121 rooms and suites in classic Mediterranean style.

Rooms

From Standard rooms to the Imperial Suite, every room is a refined refuge rooted in island tradition. The Royal wing represents the pinnacle of the offering: rooms with panoramic sea-view terraces and private Jacuzzi pools.

For the ultimate in exclusivity, Royal rooms combine open sea views, a private terrace and a Jacuzzi in a setting of quiet, timeless luxury.

Restaurants

All three of the hotel's restaurants are overseen by Executive Chef Pasquale Palamaro. Ristorante Indaco, holder of a Michelin Star since 2013, is the fine dining destination, set directly on the bay with the water almost underfoot. DolceVita, on the panoramic terrace, serves traditional and creative cuisine in a more relaxed setting. Sporting focuses on Neapolitan tradition and lighter, seafood-based dishes. Three bars complete the offer, including the Piano Bar and the Caffetteria.

Spa and thermal wellness

The Regina Isabella Spa draws on the ancient thermal tradition of Lacco Ameno: mud therapy, thalassotherapy, inhalation treatments, massages, thermal dermatology, osteopathy and fitness, all overseen by a specialist medical team. The hotel's four pools, including two indoor thermal pools, encompass a hypothermal pool and a thalassotherapy pool. A private beach, two equipped jetties and a private motor launch provide direct access to the sea.

Style , class and old school charm with discreet service

Old fashioned values of discreet and excellent service. The Hotel was elegant and refined with attention to detail. The restaurants were excellent , of which Indaco was outstanding. The creativity of the meal was exceptional on a par to L,enclume in England. Great views from rooms , when dining and lying by the pool and/or sea We will return soon despite having to negotiate by air and car Naples !! Maybe and meet and greet service from the airport to the Hotel would be the icing on the cake

Wonderful staff and waterfront setting, but fell short of five-star expectations

There were aspects of our stay at Regina Isabella that we thoroughly enjoyed, but several issues would make us hesitate to return. The staff were excellent. Their pride in the hotel and enthusiasm for their work were evident, and the housekeeping team were particularly attentive and helpful. The waterfront area, with its loungers, umbrellas and direct access to swim in the sea, was a real highlight. Unfortunately, there was a persistent smell in both the hallways and our room—a combination of mustiness and a chemical, hospital-like odour. We found this extremely off-putting, and it was the biggest drawback of our stay. Drinking water was also surprisingly limited: two 250 ml bottles per day for two guests. When we requested more in the evening, staff seemed reluctant and explained that the allowance was one bottle per person. This felt unnecessarily restrictive for a five-star hotel. The gym was only accessible through the spa from 8 am. As international travellers waking early with jet lag, we found this frustrating. We asked about earlier access but were told staff needed to be present. A secure arrangement allowing guests to use the gym earlier would make a considerable difference. Exploring the island was expensive, with a return taxi trip to Ischia Porto costing €90. This discouraged us from seeing more of Ischia. We were not offered a shuttle service; a scheduled service to key locations, even for a reasonable fee, would have been welcome. Regina Isabella’s staff and waterfront setting are real strengths. However, the overall experience did not consistently meet our expectations of a five-star hotel. Addressing the smell, providing drinking water more generously and improving gym access would substantially improve the stay.

We booked the hotel without ever hearing about it, it looked nice on the web and the reviews read well. All that said you never know what somewhere is really going to be like. WOW, what a great place, from the moment we were picked up from the port we knew it was going to be good. The hotel is in a beautiful position, at the end of the town and very quiet. The first view we had from the main restaurant is superb, blue see and the view across the Bay of Naples. Our room was clean, well furnished and with a view to die for. What really makes RI stand out are the staff, Raffael the concierge is outstanding, manages everything and anything. Everybody makes you feel special, it is all very genuine and so nice. We stayed on a half board basis, food is so good and presented beautifully. The hotel has a great spa complex and a gym that is way above what hotels usually have. So much to recommend but the service for me was the outstanding memory.

The entrance L'Albergo della Regina Isabella is located in the pretty Piazza Santa Restituta, in the heart of Lacco Ameno, a small seaside village on Ischia's north coast. On one side there are the antiques shops, artists' studios and boutiques, on the other the sea and the little harbor of lacco Ameno.

The main port of Ischia lies just a few minutes away from the hotel. The island's beaches and the picturesque towns at the foot of Monte Epomeo are, likewise, within easy reach.
Boats to Ischia depart from Naples, Pozzuoli and the neighboring island of Procida. In the summer months, boats also sail between Ischia and Capri and Ischia and the Amalfi Coast.
